Majester's on 7th Avenue-Amazing fried fish

Mark DiBlasi | May 9, 2002 07:00 PM

Perhaps the city's best fried fish sandwich is at Majester's at 144th and 7th Avenue (Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.)

The "original" Majester's at 129th and MLK closed earlier this year (not part of the so-called Harlem "renaissance", obviously)but this branch produces the crispiest, freshest sandwiches anywhere.

The fish is boneless but not skinless whiting, and is a Harlem tradition. Get it on whole wheat bread and hit it with hotsauce, mustard, tartar and Guilden's mustard (!)

The french fries are fresh cut, too, I think. Avoid the shrimp, which are frozen pre-breaded.
