Magnolia and other enticements

I'll start by qualifying that we know nothing of this establishment from who is cooking to who owns it. That having been said, we liked it a lot. Leaving the Arclight tonight (having just seen the remarkable CAPOTE) we exited the parking structure on Ivar staring straight into Sterling's. Whew! We're out of touch. Ruth's Chris meets Jones, or what? Is the Esplanade the vehicle of the moment? We drove further down the strip and saw Magnolia. Barely open three weeks this place seems like part of the new generation of hip restaurants with some savvy: welcoming hostess, eager and smart service (Jesse, I believe) and a straight forward bistro menu with all of our favorites. The skirt steak for $18 was tender and tasty, the roast chicken was moist with that great carmelized chicken stock jus, both served with excellent mashed potatoes. An excellent Caesar and Beet salad to start. Decent wines by the glass. Only a chocolate mousse tart disappointed. $106 for two, nice patio seating.
