What can I say? The wine is down-home and fresh (not ready for Alain Ducasse). And at $7 for a bottle, why not have some with dinner? Taste it in the winery/basement before dinner (with Mrs. Magnanini, who works at a local prison during the week, presiding).
But the restaurant is the thing. That is, the food, the atmosphere, the decor (1960's Northern NJ Italian), the paintings (portraits of the whole Magnanini clan plus a nude female Bacchus-type person - all painted by a Magnanini) and the music (accordian playing like you haven't heard for generations accompanied by a Magnanini on the drums. And, speaking of generations, how did these baby boomers get to dance and dress like their parents?).
But the food: For $30, you get 3 hour Italian feast. Home grown vegetables and home made salami and ham for an antipasto. Fresh made pasta, locally raised meats. I really have not had much better in the Italian countryside. I mean, the essence of good Italian food is its simplicity and freshness. No?
And the place even looks like the Italian countryside.
