even though i'm not filipino myself, filipino food is comfort food to me because i basically grew up eating filipino food from friend's houses.. the big names in filipino cuisine in LA are Max's, Goldilock's, Salo salo grill, etc. my filipino friend took us to one of his fav place in Artesia/Cerritos area called Magic Wok... they have a huge menu with dishes from $5-$8.. really cheap stuff.. the standard order at any filipino restaurant would be lechon (roast pork), crispy pata (deep fried pig's foot), lumpia (egg rolls), sinigang (tamarind soup), etc... all were excellent home cooked versions... filipino cuisine is definitely not a meal you want to eat before a body check-up but man how i love this stuff...
