Maggiano's--possible to enjoy a meal there?

My dear MIL made a reservation for a big family dinner at Maggiano's in San Jose for Dec. 26th (Sun). She said that one must book for this place a MONTH in advance?!! As all of us hounds are embedded in some family or network, we sometimes have to sacrifice our selfish desire for ultimate deliciousness in the name of collective harmony (esp. where in-laws are concerned). 'Tis the season...

Now, I'm trying to keep an open mind about this since I've never been and want to refrain from the knee-jerk snobbery towards a chain. I'm prepared for lots of food, but I'm hoping to have the best food that Maggiano's can offer w/ help from you hounds.

What would you recommend from the family-style menu (San Jose menu linked below)? Anything to def. stay away from? Any general ordering tips? Thanks and happy holidays!
