Madrid on a Sunday night is a tough place to eat or drink. Especially, if you want the good stuff. For years, when in Madrid I would go to a little Asturiano place, La Burbuja Que Rie @ c/Angel 16, a little bit south of c/Major. Subway stop, Puerto de Toledo. It's a studenty type of place that serves a great fabada, of course they have cider as well. Only here you to have to self pour, or use the funky wall pump device to do a proper pour and aeration.
This time, we didn't eat dinner after a belly busting day. However, we did go to another Asturiano place for an evening drink,Los Asturianos @ c/Vallehermoso 94. It's a bit off the track (20 minute subway ride max from any place your liekly to stay) in a non descript residential 'hood. Subway stop either Guzman el Bueno or Isla Flipinas. When you get off the subway you'll say, where the Frell am I? The immediate area around the stop is ugly, and the large buildings look like something out of a Cronenberg nightmare, I mean movie. Never fear, never mind, a 5 minute walk and you'll be very happy. This is a small family run restaurant and wine bar. They specialize in sherry, and they love rare sherry too. If you talk to owner, a fellow who's about 40 he'll be very friendly and maybe even pour you a glass of a better sherry than you ordered. We just have some tapa, a chroizo of venado (deer) and a type of morcilla (not the one from Burgos or Rioja), it was a bit harder but tasty non the less. I wish we ate here, because all the food looked good and grandma was in the kitchen.
