I moved away from Madison almost 20 years ago and will be returning in a few weeks. Would love to get a few suggestions to fill in my list.
L'Etoile. My office used to be next door on the second floor. Can you can imagine sipping your morning coffee to the aroma of L'Etoile bakery seeping through the walls and vents? Cruelty at its peak I tell ya!
Mariner's Inn. This has been a family "standard" for as long as the restaurant has been open. The clan has reservations. Don't go telling me it has gone down hill. First, I won't believe it. Second, by the second round of martini's the clan won't even notice. I am hoping it is still the same.
Fess Hotel. Ok, ok, I know it closed. I just learned that my old friend Peter died last year and will need to stop by with a flower in his memory. We sadly lost touch after I moved away. Fond memories of the Fess, the staff and my friends who were part of the regular crowd back 20 years ago.
New spots I would like to try: (based on this board)
Lao Laan-Xang for lunch. I have never eaten at a Laoatian restaurant and am quite enthralled with all that has been written about this spot.
Marigold Kitchen for breakfast. It looks like the square has really grown up in the dining scene.
Most of our free time will be during lunch. Any "don't miss" suggestions appreciated.
