Madiba update

Faren | Sep 5, 2002 08:47 PM

Well, on advice of other Hounds who swore that madiba (the S. African restaurant on Dekalb in Ft Greene) had started to regain its former style I went back. I am happy to be another confirmation of this. The service ws very good (the fastest i've ever seen there ) and very friendly. They've replaced the former relatively disinterested waitstaff with mostly S. Africans who are exceedingly nice and interested in the quality of the food. As one waiter confided to us, "I don't want the owner to serve s. African food I wouldn't want to eat myself" We started with drinks - my husband had a vodka martini and I had a very tasty litchi cosmo. We had the taditional salad (hard boiled eggs, thin sliced onions, tasty tomatoes drizzled in a light olive oil- parsley infused dressing) - very nice. For entrees my husband had a huge lamb shank, veggies and roated potatoes - lamb very flavorful and falling off the bone as it should. I had a great whole grilled red snapper served with a creamy caper sauce, vegggies and coconut rice. Also very good. I'm sorry to say we did not have dessert. So, for those of you who liked Madiba but stopped going there (as I had) because the food was sliding down and down, it appears that this place is indeed back. Good service, food, drinks, atmosphere and fairly reasonable prices.
