The first Macelleria Italian Steakhouse opened in Pelham, N.Y., about 2 years ago. It was an immediate hit for its flavorful dishes. Tony LaLa and his team opened a 2nd spot in Armonk in the Elide Shopping Mall. Now they have premiered Macelleria Greenwich, actually on South Water St. in Byram. The free-standing building had previously operated as Char. It is a handsome restoration of the premises with ample free parking.
There is plenty of talent at work here both in front and back of the house. Over the past several months we have enjoyed their light version of Fried Calamari; Salmon Crudo; an addicting Steak Tartare prepared with filet mignon; a bright Iceberg Wedge, a meal in itself; Rigatoni Bolognese and Short Rib Pappardelle; a tender Bone-In Rib Eye Steak with brandy peppercorn sauce; big Diver Scallops; and hearty Chicken Scarpariello with the works. Extraordinary wine selection, too.
The new space in Greenwich has a working seasonal fireplace, and a separate tavern room which is already drawing a networking crowd. By the way, when translated Macelleria means 'Butcher Shop'. www.macelleriaitaliansteakhouse.com
