I'm a bit of a mac and cheese fanatic and in the offerings at 2 separate places in different states (Tov Pizza in Baltimore and Milk St. Cafe in Boston), I'm tasted a distinct meaty/savor flavor. Both of the restaurants are kosher, so I know that there are no actual meat or poultry ingredients, but I've been unable to pinpoint exactly the flavor. My only clue is that I've seen green flecks in both. Any thoughts as to what they could be adding to give this flavor? I'm thinking onion, oregano, seasoned breadcrumbs, maybe?
Another note- neither macaronis have been creamy, they're more of the kind of oily noodles with cheese somehow coating everything in a solid mass without any sort of visible sauciness.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
