Many thanks to the hounds of Chow who helped make my 2-week stay in Lyon such a gastronomic pleasure! Some feedback to aid others who may be visiting this wonderful city:
Lucy Vanel (http://kitchen-notebook.blogspot.com/) - The first morning I was here, I did a market tour with Lucy, which provided an excellent overview that helped guide my activities in the following days - highly recommended. I also did a sauces class with Lucy, which was super fun and approachable. I can't wait to get home to my kitchen to replicate for my family some of the delicious sauces we made!
L'Alexandrin (http://www.lalexandrin.fr/) - The best meal I had in Lyon (out of many delicious ones) and among the best I've had ever. Thanks to those who recommended the vegetarian menu. It was a revelation. Truly amazing and intense flavors. The level of service in the restaurant is impeccable and formal, yet friendly. I wasn't able to finish my demi bottle, so the hostess kindly corked and packed it in a bag for me to take away, then also offered to pack up the delicious petits-fours that had come with dessert - very sweet.
Restaurant 126 (http://www.gaultmillau.fr/restaurant/...) - Smaller, less formal, less expensive than L'Alexandrin, this is also outstanding and also very reasonably priced. The hosts at Evasion Loft recommended it and I'm so glad they did! Definitely worth checking out.
Maison Clovis (http://www.maisonclovis.com/) - This is another starred restaurant with a loyal local following such as is enjoyed by the other two mentioned here. It is run by a husband and wife, where the husband is chef and the wife runs the front of the house - she is delightful. The food is very good and if you have time to try all 3, I would do it. This was the restaurant where I had the most difficulty getting a reservation, but with all - be sure to reserve in advance (either by email or phone).
The Chowhounder recommendation for Evasion Loft (http://www.evasion-loft.com/) was most appreciated - I was able to get a reservation only for one night, but it was delightful and the hosts are not only exceptionally kind and welcoming, they are also extremely knowledgeable and helpful about restaurant/sightseeing info - highly recommend staying here!
Be sure to visit the market at Crois Rousses, if possible on a Saturday - amazing cheeses, meats, produce from the producers.
Lyon we like!
