LV Trip Report: Strip Steak, Il Mulino, Olives and a surprise.

Just returned from LV yesterday afternoon. He is my review of each restaurant we dined at:

Strip Steak: I've been to many LV steakhouses once, but have not been to any of them twice. The list includes: CUT, Charlie Palmer Steak, Craft, Prime, S&W and The Palm. After dining at Strip Steak I have decided it is my favorite steak place in LV. Our meal was excellent. I ordered the wedge salad, the ribeye and for sides we had the mac and cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Everything I ate I enjoyed, especially the ribeye. The way they prepare their steaks is unique and I think makes a big difference. (I think they poach in butter than a quick sear over natural wood to bring it to serving temp). I also thought that the service was very good. My only complaint is the markup of their wine list is too large.

Il Mulino: This was not my first choice for our only other dinner in LV but a few people in our party really wanted to try it. (I'm from NY and have dined at the original many times). Overall it was better than expected. Best way to describe it is straight forward Italian food that is well executed. Menu: Shared apps were Clams Casino, Fried Calamari and Carpaccio. My main course was Veal Milanese with salad. This is something I order frequently. Their version is above average. The service is a bit slow and the wine list is not just over priced, they also have very few bottles under $100, which I really bugs me. Overall I enjoyed Il Mulino, but for the money I think you could find other Italian restaurants in LV that are just as good and cost less.

Olives: Won't go back. BBQ pizza was so so at best. My pasta was way over sauced and it's flavor was off. Disappointed that we wasted one of our meals here.

By far the biggest surprise of my trip was the cheeseburger I had at the snack bar at the Bellagio. This is the small cafeteria style restaurant located near the Bellagio poker room. I loved this burger. Maybe I liked it simply because my expectations were so low. I do not eat many burgers and I have not dined at any of the other burger joints in LV. But either way, if you are at the Belaggio and want a quick lunch, you will not be disappointed with this burger.
