My wife, Julie and I are addicted to caffeine. We love our coffee and thanks to some good connections in Costa Rica, consistently drink fresh ground, high quality nectar at home. Our struggles have been finding a place that suits us just fine when we head out. Although Starbucks is a welcome beacon of consistency while travelling to far away places, we prefer the small independent coffee houses when we are close to home. Problem is we haven't found many good ones close to us. We usually hit a local Seattle Espresso.
This last Saturday, Julie and I had to travel up to Scottsdale and decided to stop in Phoenix on our way up for our morning fix of Java. I had heard about the Lux Coffee Bar in Phoenix and decided to give it a try.
First impression was very good. Small, artsy feel, eclectic clientele and staff. A couple of couches, four or five tables and a patio area outside. Service was friendly. We both had mugs of their fresh brewed coffee. I had a blueberry scone and Julie had some "toast" and jam. The toast was unique, almost like a big roll. Everything tasted good. The coffee was rich, the scone and toast were fresh and yummy.
Julie and I will gladly head back there whenever we have a free Saturday morning (they are closed on Sundays) and we want to experience the Yang to Starbucks Ying.
