Lupa's: downhill or spiteful waiter?

s | May 26, 2002 09:58 AM

I had only gone to Lupa's 2 or 3 times before my last visit a couple of weeks ago. Each of those experiences proved Lupa's to be a pretty great restaurant.
The last time I went, about 2 weeks ago, the meal was a disaster! The waiter was incredibly impatient and a terrible listener. He took my inquiries about dishes' ingredients as a personal attack (probably because he didn't know the answers!). I wanted to know which pastas were butter free. When he wasn't sure, I asked him to ask the chef if the pasta I was ordering had butter in it. I told him that if it did, I'd change my order. He either didn't have time to find out/change the order or he didn't care that it was a concern. He didn't return until delivering the food, and when the pastas arrived, they were DRENCHED in butter. It was like eating a little pasta with my butter. More so for one dish than the one I asked about, but even that dish was loaded with butter.
What gives?
Previously it was my favorite Italian in the area. Now, especially considering his rude behavior and attitude, I wont' go back. I also feel skeptical about the other Babbo restaurants. I mean, it's not difficult to make a tasty dish with butter!
