LUPA for lunch today - report

all i can say yet again is wow!

we started with a bottle of white sardinian wine ($23)and shared some of the daily specials. the wine was fruity and dry. perfect. to start was the easy winner of the entire meal and about the finest tomato caprese salad you will ever see. slices of perfectly ripe red, red-green striped, orange and yellow tomatos, fine fresh moz, mellow basalmic vinegar and salt/cracked pepper. just outstanding and fun to note the subtle differences in the tomatos. a must for the end of summer.

next was the special ravioli and fish of the day. both came at the same time but again we shared and it was plenty. the grouper was a tough but tasty filet on a bed of sauteed sweet onions. my spouse is a sauteed onion fanatic and she cooed over paring bites of the fish with the onions. the ravioli was stuffed with greens and ricotta and sauteed in clarified(?) butter. we cut each piece in half to share---deeelish! seems a shame to call it "stuffed," but my grasp of the english language fails me in describing the thin and delicately formed ravioli discs. this is no thick bruno, etc. ravioli many of us are used to eating at home.

we moved to the bar for digestivos, or amaro. she had the minty frenet branca and i had a more unusual one that tasted something like yet better than a mellow jagermeister. i chose it because it looked well loved (3/4 empty) but i do not recall the name. it was in the squat-est bottle. i'd say hold until winter or you are getting over a sore throat. go with the grappa & coffee afterward for now. cost was $104 total w/ tip.

so ya gotta get to LUPA for the tomato salad to close out your summer.
