I work in Brighton, and over the past year have accumulated (in great part due to this board) a bunch of great lunchtime spots. I thought I'd post my places, and find out if there are any gaping holes in my repetoire.
Michael's Deli- Coolidge Corner, corner Harvard/Beacon
Good corned beef sandwiches, chopped liver, great deli all around. Especially enjoy the bagel lox-spread tomato sandwich.
Shawarma King II- Beacon St. between Washington St and Harvard
Love the Chicken with garlic Shawarma, extra spicy. Even though it makes me smell like a garlic clove for hours...
Rice Garden- Washington Sq, Washington St.
I love Szechuan! Love the specials on the white board, great dry rubbed green beans w/o pork, chicken with peanuts and peppers, etc. Yum!
Eagle's Deli- Cleveland Circle, Beacon St.
Love the DMD, low carb grilled turkey w/ onions and bacon, Fitzy, etc. Great Sandwiches, haven't yet tried the huge burgers, but I hear they're great.
Moogy's- Chestnut Hill St.
Pretty good steak n cheese, Love the Buffalo Chicken sandwich.
Boston House of Pizza- Chestnut Hill St. across from Moogy's
Great slices, also fan of the Chicken Parm sub.
Pho Lemongrass- Coolidge Corner, Harvard St.
Great Vietnamese, love the chicken soup with added siracha hot sauce.
Flour- Washington St. near BU Med Center
Love the roasted chicken with jicama and avocado, as well as the roast beef sandwiches
Reef Cafe- Brighton Ave.
Great lebanese, haven't yet had the baklava. had the cabbage rolls and lentil soup, both good.
La Mamma's- Brighton Ave.
New favorite- chacarerro and empanadas are fabulous.
Greek place on Harvard Ave near coolidge Corner-
Overpriced, but good souvlaki and greek salad
Brown Sugar Cafe- Comm Ave near Super 88
Love the fried rice. Can't remember the name of a fabulous duck dish.
Super 88- Comm Ave.
Not a fan anymore, had one good bahn mi, next time I got it I was not impressed.
Coolidge Corner Clubhouse- Harvard St.
Good beer selection for those hard days at work, pretty tasty lobster roll.
Fugakyu- Coolidge Corner
Too pricey for me. Oishii is far and away better, IMHO. However, nice atmosphere.
Tsunami- Coolidge Corner
Pretty good sushi. But i'm spoiled due to Oishii.
Boca Grande- Coolidge Corner
OK grilled veggie burrito. the meat at this place, and anna's, make me sickly. Tacos Lupita Veggie burrito is way, way better. my favorite.
Italian place across from Rami's- Harvard Ave.
Can be bland pasta dishes, enjoy the panini's. Still a pretty good place for quick italian at lunchtime.
Rami's- Harvard Ave.
Great falafal. Like the shawarma at Shawarma king better.
Upper Crust- Harvard Ave, Coolidge Corner
Really like the pizza, but think its a little pricey.
Paris Creperie- Harvard Ave, Coolidge Corner
Indian Gourmet- Coolidge Corner
Pretty good. Think Punjabi Dhaba is way better.
Rangoli- Coolidge Corner
Also pretty good lunch buffet, only been once.
Virginia's Fine Foods- Brookline Village
AMAZING anzac cookies. Pretty good sandwiches too.
Matt Murphy's- Brookline Village
Liked the fish in the fish sandwich, and the chips, and the homemade ketchup. Want to go back for the fish n chips platter.
Cafe Europa- Brookline Village
Had the potato dumplings- pelmini? Small portion, they were tasty though.
Dok Bua- Harvard Ave
Great thai food! tons of posts on this board.
Oishii- Off Boylston, Chestnut Hill
Best sushi I have had in Boston, by far. Amazing salmon sashimi, LOVE this place. If only my job paid more, I could eat here every day...
I am sure I am missing some, I'll post if I remember more. I know these aren't the best descriptions of what I ate there, but I'm just trying to get down the list of places I've eaten lunch at the past year, and went back to because they were good. I pretty much spend all morning trying to figure out what to eat for lunch, so thanks to this board for helping me so much! If there are any places in this area that I've missed, please let me know!
