Decided to check out Gorbals for their inaugural lunch. It was my first time there for any meal.
Went at about 1p... the place was very quiet.
Two of us shared:
Arugula Salad with Chicken Confit
Bacon Wrapped Matzoh Balls
Burger with Smoke Cheddar and fries
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Overall, nice. But nothing that stood out as "must eat again".
There was one big "error" in my book and perhaps it was just a today thing. But many of the dishes suffered from over salting. The fries were close to inedible unless you brushed off the excess salt, which we did.
Also in the saline overload catagory, the Arugula Salad.
Winners were the Gribenes Sandwich... really nice and perfectly balanced. Crunchy chicken skin worked nicely against the mayo and tomatoes. I imagine it's even better during the height of tomato season. Also good the Bacon Wrapped Matzoh balls... which likely has my Jewish Bubbe spinning in her grave.
The dessert was also very very good. But the ice cream could have been a better quality. It was a bit "icey" not as creamy as it should have been.
The prices are quite good. This lunch was $34 before tip. We did drink only water.
I think Ilan is trying. Maybe a little too hard. It seems to want to be Animal, but it doesn't have the teeth. I may go check it out again for dinner in the future.
