As a follow-up to a previous post, my work-group had a Christmas business lunch at Victoria's Bistro on 17th Ave SW. I was here years ago when it was the British-themed Victoria's Restaurant - it was not one of my more enjoyable experiences.
They've redid the menu completely (I can't remember about the interior though) to the better. The lunch menu as pretty short, but it looked pretty good. Not quite the same decadence as Brava, but sorta reminds me of Bistro 2210.
The duck confit sandwich was really good, which I had with a cup of butternut squash soup w/caramelized apples. Some others had the strip loin , the seafood pasta, and the chicken breast with frites - by all accounts, everyone enjoyed their mains...
For me, the best part of the meal was the bread that they served, and the dessert. I heard that the baker came from Charlie's Bakery in Kensington. In my sandwich, the bread was awesome - chewy and toothsome. The dessert list was small, but well executed (we all ordered something different so we could share). There was a Chocolate Bombe to satisfy the chocoholic. The goat cheese cheesecake w/berry compote was excellent. The apple tart was cool - it was deconstructed with puff pastry - very light and perfect as a lunch dessert.
All in all, the group had a good time here. A tad on the expensive side, but not extremely so. I think I would like to experience dinner here sometime.
My major complaint, like everywhere these days, is that the service was on the slow side. Good thing we did the extended lunch hour!
