Lunch at Uncle Frank's - ribs good but that's all

I met two barbeque-loving friends who work in San Mateo for lunch yesterday and we went for our second visit to Uncle Frank's. We all agreed on the assessment (we usually do). The ribs were quite good, nice smoke ring and flavor, not too fatty, lots of meat, just-right have-to-chew-it-a-bit-off-the-bone texture. The brisket was pretty tasteless with no flavor-sign of being smoked, no smoke ring, and certainly not fatty like the first visit. It was cut into pretty small chunks. The chicken was good but I don’t go to barbecue places for chicken. Hush puppies were very “heavy” with a thick crust, although the flavor was pretty good. Cliff’s hush puppies are much better. The sauces were OK but very thick and paste-like. The cole slaw was pretty forgettable. None of the other sides appealed to us (there were no baked beans, etc.). If I were nearby and wanted ribs, I'd stop there, but that's about it.
