Lunch at Sette Osteria

foodiejudy | Aug 9, 2004 06:24 PM

My friend and I had lunch today in gorgeous weather at Sette Osteria in DuPont Circle. They have nice, umbrella'd outdoor tables and you think you're in Europe. We each ordered pizzas and they were terrific. The crust is the most authentically Neapolitan (i.e., paper thin but WITHOUT getting soggy in the middle) in all of the places I've tried which have included 2 Amys, Pizzeria Paradiso and Red Dog Cafe. Nice, wood-fired taste. The toppings tasted delicious and fresh. I chose broccoli rabe (kind of like a cross between spinach and broccoli), kalamata olives, mushrooms, onion and garlic and the toppings didn't overwhelm the pizza. My friend had a Margherita with cheese, tomato sauce and basil. She claimed she could taste the crust better without so many toppings. Have to try that next time. The pizzas were so light (because of the crust) that we were able to eat a whole pizza each. My pizza with all the toppings came to $14 and our coffees were nice and strong but not too strong. Try this place!
