A New Lunch Place in Playa Vista - Big Mango

The other day, Dommy sent me a text taunting me about a salad she had just had at a new place in Playa Vista Called Big Mango. It's behind the Clippers Building by Jefferson and Centinela. She was Waxing Poetic about the Thai Crunch Salad. Since I was looking to get out of my Tender Green's Chinese Chicken Salad rut I headed later the same day.

The salad is simple but crave-worthy Cabbage, Romaine, crispy wontons and rice noodles .plus May Ploy sweet Chili like sauce and a light peanut dressing . I had it with marinated tofu and it came together really well. Dommy had it with the seasoned chicken breast, which she liked quite a bit.

I've been back to have the salad in a wrap (which I also really enjoyed) and Special Milanese Chicken Salad which was good except for the milanese aspect was cold and gummy which took away from the otherwise really well cooked chicken.

Another item I would not recommend is their Turkey Chili. It reminded me of my mother's tomato sauce which always had too much tomato paste and sat on the stove so long that the sugars would burn slightly. However, their Vegan Tortilla soup, while needing salt and Pepper and was Ok.

They are a breakfast and lunch operation catering to the nearby office workers, so the their hours are just M-F and they close by 3:30p However, if you are in the area and are kinda tired of Cabbage Patch's pricy stingy salads... give it a shot.
