Lunch at PJ Clarke's, 3rd Avenue

We went over to PJ Clarke's in the Turtle Bay neighborhood for a late lunch the other day. It was packed, even at 2:00 in the afternoon. The bar was hopping, and we had to wait a few minutes for a table in the back room.

Loved the old-school atmosphere in the place. Lots of brick, dark wood, old photos hanging on the walls, etc. Our food was pretty good for pub grub; the chili I ordered was loaded with beef, and it was a big enough portion to make it my main entree. The bubble and squeak (a pancake made with potatoes, bacon, and cabbage) was also very good.

PJ Clarke's reminded me of the old political hangouts we have in Boston (Doyle's, JJ Foley's, etc.), though there seem to be fewer and fewer of those in Beantown every year. I may return there next week when I'm back in the city, depending on timing, schedules, etc.
