lunch at Mildred Pierce - yum!

Had lunch yesterday at Mildred Pierce. They are still offering their winterlicious menu, which wasn't my reason for going, and given the lukewarm reviews I've read of winterlicious, I wasn't all that interested in it anyway.

But in the way that some things work out, we both took advantage of Winterlicious, and it was great. I had a lovely caesar salad, which was nicely and lightly dressed. My companion had a fabulous artichoke soup, finished with lamb confit and truffle oil.

For our mains, we both ordered something called Chicken and Waffles, which was a fun combination of a chicken breast with a great mustard sauce and a blueberry ( I think?!) chutney. The waffles were savoury, yummy and quite light.

And dessert... I had profitoroles, which were like cream puffs made with ice cream and a chocolate caramel sauce. They were fantastic. There were three of them on the plate. Two would have been plenty, but they were so good that I ate them all. My companion had an apple galette, which looked pretty good, but a little boring!

The price was $20pp, which seemed like an incredible deal given the generous portion sizes, the ambiance and the service.
