I'm visiting Santa Monica from DC and today took my Mother to Joe's for lunch. I've been there twice in the past few years and have always enjoyed it. She's a major Joe's fan and goes there once a month or so. Today we both had sand dabs in a (I think) low-key mustard sauce, garnished with shrimp and avacado. My Mother pronounced this the best dish she's ever had at Joe's. And while I cannot confirm or deny that, I will say that it was the best dish I've had anywhere in the past few months. At $16, which included an excellent mini-wedge of romaine with blue cheese, this was also an outstanding value. We have a few places in the Washington area that have Joe's ambience (sort of), but the food isn't as good; nor is the value.
