lunch at el gallo giro in santa ana

I finally made it over there for lunch today: had two carnitas tacos (could they put anymore pork in those things?!), a platano agua fresca, and some bakery items (which I haven't eaten). The carnitas were pretty good, but I think I prefer Q Tortas. The overload of pork was a bit much for me and there weren't really any crispy bits; plus, i didn't care for the way the onions and cilantro was mixed in (I assume as counter guy was chopping the meat), rather than placed on top. Still, not bad and fairly satisfying. The atmosphere was very festive and I liked the juice bar with the large glass containers of agua fresca (today they had the already-mentioned platano, hibiscus, horchata, tamarindo, and mango) -- the platano was very, very good.

My next stop will have to be El Toro Bravo on 19th St. in Costa Mesa.
