Lunch at Blue Ribbon BBQ Arlington

Chris VR | Mar 5, 201411:02 AM

I know that some people have said that quality has declined at Blue Ribbon but I had a really nice Burnt Ends Platter today. Nice crispy bits, among the moist pulling apart bits, all with a nice smoke taste. The sauce on top was a bit meh. They had a bacon mashed potato side (special) that was REALLY good. A hint of bacon flavor, creamy mashed potatoes and bits of onions... a really nice balance of flavors, with not too much of any one thing. I don't usually order mashed potatoes anywhere as a side because they're never very good, but these were really worth ordering. The Hoppin John Salad was a bit of a disappointment. The concept was fine- cold salad with black eyed peas, tomatoes, scallions? parsley but I thought either the rice or the peas (or maybe both) were too underdone, lending an unpleasant chewiness bordering on crunchiness to the salad.
