they've been doing friday lunches for a while, so i went today to check it out and was quite disappointed.
we chose the five-course one, but the portions made me feel like it was from the nine-course meal and we should have had four more courses.
nothing blew me away, which i was hoping for at that price point ($78). the highlight of the meal was turbot that was flown in from france this morning with indian spices, but everything else was average to good (with one weird amuse bouche). they served a filet mignon that was perfectly cooked, but for this type of restaurant, i feel like that's more of a bare minimum they should meet; the same applied for the 62 degree egg, which i'm starting to get sick of, and was not nearly as good or innovative as the one at commis.
most disappointingly, there was very little molecular gastronomy used other than a downright weird "hummus sponge", which was one of the main reasons i was so curious to check it out in the first place, given how rare it is in the bay area.
has anyone else been for lunch? are they just putting the b team in the kitchen?
