Although food and food alone is not my reason for being in Asti and Pavia, I would like to eat as well as I can while in both places. I've looked at this recent Chowhound thread for Asti
and am looking for any additional input you might have regarding eating Sunday lunch there, including recommendations for particular dishes in spring. (I'm afraid I have no opportunity to go outside Asti center for that lunch, except possibly a very short taxi ride.
I also note that the Slow Food pick for the center of Asti -- Da Aldo di Castiglione -- doesn't seem to have any Chowhound fans. Any reason for that? (It's very convenient to where I'll be in Asti.)
As for Pavia, I did see a recent Chowhound thread where allende took an overall dim view of food offerings there, but I still need to eat lunch and dinner. I have a little more flexibility about heading out of town for lunch, even though I won't have a car, but not for dinner. Any guidance beyond the few recommendations provided by Fred Plotkin's book?
As for cocktails in Torino, anywhere would be fine. Prefer something not raucous and don't need need a stuzzachini pig out. Just someplace that makes good cocktails.
