As one of Luna Park's most fervent admirers and recommenders in the past few years, especially on this board, I am sorry to report that something has gone fairly wrong over there as of late and I would no longer recommend it as a a good chow experience.
I went back for lunch today to be sure that my bad experience of about a month ago wasn't a fluke. It wasn't.
The tuna poke, which had been one of my favorite appetizers in the city, has devolved over the last few visits. Today the usual citrus and ginger notes that give it its kick were missing completely and all that was left was fresh tuna, tomato, cucumber dressed in oil. It was even missing salt. We couldn't bear to finish it.
The side of broccoli rabe was cooked into mush for the second straight visit (it's hard to make broccoli rabe mush, but they have made a science of making the dish completely inedible lately). It was a soggy, bitter pile of yellow-green mush.
My companion was asked a few times if he wanted his coffee refilled, which he resopnded to in the affirmative. Each time the coffee did not come.
The pot-au-feu and chicken with hazelnuts, butternut squash and brussel sprouts were fine (though it was over-honeyed this time). However, I had a hard time enjoying them since I was so demoralized from the incredible ickiness of the other two dishes.
It's not that the poke and rabe weren't as good as usual. It's that they were not good AT ALL and that anyone who gave a hoot AT ALL about quality of food would not let those plates out of the kitchen.
It's a shame when a place goes downhill like this. I assume there must have been some seismic shift in the kitchen. I recognized one of the longtime servers in the room but the others seemed new as well.
