Took a trip to LA Chinatown and picked up some old fashion softball-size steamed char siu baos which seem to be a disappearing commodity nowadays. They came packed 6 to a bag (refrigerated) and I believe they were around $3.00? Not as good as the now closed Hong Kong Low but it fills the gap. The baked char siu baos were a little more but still filling and substantial. The siu mai (pork dumplings) was pretty decent and came 8 to a plate. Can't remember the price but it was reasonable especially for take out. I also wanted a whole roasted pig head to go for "jook" but prices seemed to have caught up current inflation because a few weeks ago it was $4.00 and now it's $5.00. Even the roast duck prices have gone up. I hope this was temporary and due to Chinese New Year coming up in February?
