Had the strange opportunity to eat at Luca (1st and 89th) twice last week. (Don't ask. BF's parents in from out-of-town.)Once on Thursday night at about 9pm and once on Monday night at about 6pm. I had always thought of it as a cut above typical 'hood Italian and certainly their prices suggest Luca agrees with that assessment. Two disappointing meals. Bland and overcooked mussels. Mushy overcooked gnocci. Undersalted, lackluster risotto with porcini. Stringy and overcooked lamb shanks. Tough, dried out cornish hen. I am sorry to say it will be a long time before I return. Anyone else have same experience? (and by the way, any suggestions for an UES replacement?) Don't say Vico!
