Bistrot le 5 (menerbes). Extensive menu and interesting wine list. Particularly good are the melon appetizer and the tomatoes and burrata appetizer. Had an excellent filet of bar over ratatouille which was the daily special. Arguably the best view in the luberon.
La petite maison (cucuron).
La closerie (Ansouis). I’ll review these together because they are near each other and both have Michelin stars. We had lunch at both. Both are excellent. La petite maison seems to veer a little more to classic French (the chef was formerly at le tour d’argent among other trad places), while la closerie seems a bit more Provençal. La petite maison has a nice wine pairing option with either of its two menus.
Clover Gordes (Gordes). New this year, replacing Peir. By comparison this is more casual though still expensive (but not nearly as expensive as peir was). Sort of a steakhouse menu but also with options like volaille de bresse for two (which we ordered) and fish and lobster. The main courses are served with a simple but excellent green salad, frites, and a sort of deconstructed ratatouille. We started with one order of the chef’s signature pizza soufflé which was interesting and not as heavy as one might think since the soufflé part is basically a puffed up cracker. Comprehensive wine list. Friendly and attentive service.
Un p’tit coin de cuisine (bonnieux). Pretty good and well priced lunch outside with view. Burger was good but home made bun a little too big in my opinion.
Bastide de pierres (gordes). Pretty good pizza and Italian dishes in center of gordes.
