loving memories restaurant [North Devon]

This week I went out with family to Memories Restaurant and I’m not afraid to shout about it, it was a fantastic evening and I don’t think I can fault a thing. It was the best meal out I have had in a long time, I knew it would be good and I wasn’t let down.

The restaurant is run by a husband and wife team, Brett cooks, and even catches some of the fish on the menu, while Naomi runs front of house. Set within the small village of Northam in North Devon and boasting a Michelin Rosette. It is only a small restaurant seating perhaps 15, and because of this intimate setting it felt too intrusive to take photos so you’ll just have to take it from me that the food looked and tasted like a work of art.

Welcome. Naomi welcomed us to the reception/bar area. A gin and tonic for me while selecting a bottle of Crocodile Rock Chardonnay (Australian) from the extensive wine list and browsing the menu. Fish, meat and vegetarian dishes; only 4-5 items per course which screamed that the food isn’t just home made but freshly cooked too - perfect.

To Start. I chose the Looe Mackerel Fillets, one of my favourite fish; 2 mackerel fillets with chilli tomato between on a beautifully decorated plate. It was delicious and just enough chilli to give a little taste but not overpower.
The rest of my party enjoyed Thai fish cakes, duck pancakes – all homemade of course!

Main Course. Just fabulous. Pork medallions with Dauphinoise potatoes, peppercorn sauce and crispy crackling. Month-wateringly good – just writing about it I want to eat it again.
The rest of my party enjoyed Bass fillet, Lamb with croquet. All our main courses were served with a “pot” of vegetables, broccoli, mange tout and carrots between 2.

Dessert. Just couldn’t resist the passion fruit and raspberry brulée. Which was decorated with fruit and then had the extra surprise of raspberries at the bottom of the brulée.
The rest of my party enjoyed cheese and biscuits and lemon tart

Everything is well thought out the dishes the food is served on, how the plate is decorated, it definitely felt like a breath of fresh air. Fab food and a fab evening.

Now I’m going to stop writing as I could go on forever; I enjoyed it so much and I’m making myself hungry!
