I Love Twinkies, and I'm Not Ashamed To Admit It

I decided to start another Twinkie thread because the other one was about hoarding, and the OP meandered to include airings of opinions about unions.

So, I want to declare for posterity (which is not how long a Twinkie would last, despite rumor), that I loved Twinkies when I was a kid, and I would occasionally indulge the guilty pleasure of eating them, as an adult.

As for all the scoffing and mocking about the lack of nutritional content - please, give me a break. A lot of high class, snob-food is similarly devoid of nutritional content. Putting down Twinkies because they are not nutritious is sheer class snobbery, posturing, and bloated self-importance.

If you don't or didn't like 'em fine. Everyone's tastes are different and everyone is entitled to them. But spare us the "Twinkies were disgusting because they were empty calories." So is YOUR favorite dessert. Today, Chowhound is featuring a recipe for "Chocolate Cake with Whipped Fudge Frosting and Chocolate Buttercream" -- what do you think that does to your insulin levels??Waistline?? C'mon! (I can't wait to try it.)

I loved Twinkies and I will miss them. They were, in my opinion, a masterpiece of consistency and food design. They tasted FANTASTIC. I hope that some other company will buy the formula and produce them. In the event that the Twinkie falls into the dustbin of history, I mourn its passing.
