Love Lane Kitchen (Mattituck): will I ever learn?

Once again I went to Love Lane Kitchen, as I pretty much do once a year, and I remember why I don't go there more frequently.
I think I get caught up in the idea of the place, that the promise is more than there really. And I'm always disappointed.
I went there for lunch on Saturday--I had other plans but they fell through, and LLK became the fallback, mainly because I don't go to the Riverhead/North Fork enough to really have other places in mind.

There was a wait to get in, which, in the scheme of things is ironic.

I ordered the Steak Frites ("Marinated hanger steak, grilled and sliced, garlic fries") because I have steak very infrequently and it sounded good. Unfortunately it was not. The steak was marinated in some rather sweet sauce; it was hard to tell what else was in it because the outside was so heavily caramelized that there wasn't much flavor (from the sauce or the steak itself) other than sweet carbon. The garlic fries were so drenched in oil (presumably from garlic-infused oil added after frying rather than the frying itself) that if you picked up a fry and held it vertically, oil would drip off. The chicken in my guest's Chicken Avocado Mango Salad was very dry and flavorless.

The waitress came over immediately after the runner brought the food to ask how things were, and of course I couldn't really give an evaluation of what I hadn't yet tasted. She didn't check on us after that.

I left almost all of the oily fries on the plate; the runner/busboy asked if I wanted to pack them up, and I said no, they were really greasy, but that didn't get any sort of response.

I should have taken a picture of my plate--not to post, but to save as a reminder in the future of why I shouldn't go back.
