Louie's Pizza, Woburn

Bob Geary | Mar 10, 2007 12:51 PM

I've lived in Woburn 11 years, and never noticed this place until the other night - it's a nondescript pizza shop on Main St (heading out of Woburn Center towards Winchester). The only reason I noticed them at all was that they had a sign out on the sidewalk claiming "best pizza in Woburn" (not a grandiose claim) and "brick oven" something or other. So I'm a little intrigued, and at least they don't look like one of those Greek places with the deep-fried crust and the overabundance of almost cheddary cheese.

Stopped in yesterday on my way home from work at about 6:30 to order a pizza - but no luck, they were sold out. I must've looked surprised - the woman at the counter said yeah, it was a little early, they usually don't sell out until 7 or so. OK, Louie's, you have my attention.

So of course I went back for lunch today - two pizzas, one pepperoni and one mushroom-onion, both delicious. They really get the crust right - perfectly cooked, equal parts crispy and chewy, slices you can move from the box to the plate with one hand. Quality toppings, good cheese blend, and a tasty homemade sauce all performed their supporting roles well, but it's the crust I buy pizza for.

In case I wasn't the last person in/around Woburn to find out about Louie's, check it out. 118 Main St, open daily 11-7(ish), Sundays 11-6:30.
