We've already extolled Muse and of course the news about The Chef's Table at the Kensington Riverside Inn has been nothing but great, but a traipse through Kensington (along Kensington Rd and 10 Street NW) today confirms again that it's a heck of a dynamic neighbourhood- which means lots of renovations, closings, and (thank God) openings.
1. No sign, but apparently the Polish Combatants' Lodge on K Rd (which was "for lease" for many months) is being repurposed as the new charcuterie affiliated with Muse.
2. The space next to Fiasco Gelato, which was (I think) a used clothing store, is becoming "VELO Bistro Moderne." No other info but this is going to be one tiny bistro.
3. "Spice Cafe" has apparently left the franchise fold and has a completely new sign, is called something starting with "sun"- "Sunbeam Cafe"? That might be it, Inside, same menu, sandwiches and various Malaysian/Thai dishes.
4. Tibet on 10th is no more as was reported on here a while back, and that black hole of a location will soon be a Thai resto, which makes several new Thai places of recent. How long will this one last? We'll see. I think that whole strip needs rethinking as the "back" two spaces are so dank. Speaking of which, there is a tonne of renos to storefronts going on too.
I'm sure I missed some things, but it's unfortunate to see that such a vibrant urban strip still is lacking a single good (as in really good) coffee house.
