I'm wondering if other people have been getting lots of little extras lately. I've been to 4 great restaurants in the past month and they've all throw in freebies. At Cru they must've brought us 12 "amuse bouche" type things through out the course of the meal. Each delicious. Same at Daniel. At Bouley brought me and my date were sent an extra dessert. the same thing happened with The Four Seasons.
Now, I don't normally eat at such expensive and great places but have been going out with a foodie from out of town. I do however, eat at a handful of pricey places here and there every year, but have never had so much food come gratis.
So I don't know--is this normal now adays. Is it the norm at these kinds of restaurants, or are more places doing this? Is the economy good again and no one told me? Or is there too much food in the kitchen and not enough people eating out to consume it all?
