We leave for Montreal in a few days and we still haven't pinned down where we're going to eat. As suggested, I've been reading previous posts, but now I'm hopelessly lost. We have two dinners. We'd like one to be French bistro. We were going to go to Le P'tit Plateau, but it's closed for July. One of you suggested Laloux as a rough equivalent, and from what I've read about it elsewhere, it sounds terrific. But then someone else suggested that maybe it's seen better days? I've been to Au Petit Extra before and enjoyed it -- is there something like that in the Plateau neighbourhood?
For our other dinner, we're thinking La Chronique, La Brunoise, La Colombe, Chao Phraya. How to decide? Our only real desire, in addition of course to good food, is that it be a relaxed, comfortable place to have an evening of conversation (we're a group of friends from different places meeting in Montreal).
We also need some suggestions for nice lunches and good bars. We're staying at the Hotel Place d'Armes (anyone know anything about this place?) so drinks and lunches in Old Montreal would be great.
Finally, any suggestions for lunch/drinks in the area near the Musee des Beaux Arts (seeing Cocteau) would also be swell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
