Markets & Stores 2

Lost in a Filipino bakery

I've been passing this place called FV Foods on Warden about a block south of Eglinton for about a year now. Finally the time and opportunity to go in arrived this week. I was amazed to find that what appears to be a small space from the outside is more like a Rabba-sized grocery store inside. Although they obviously supply restaurants and grocers they are also open to the public. They carry much more than just baked goods. Must try the jarred coconut sauce I saw today...

Wandering through the aisles I confess I recognize nothing save empanadas. Yesterday I tried an ensaymada based on its ingredients alone. No preservatives, no glucose, no fructose, no artificial colours, no artificial flavours. Nothin' except flour, milk, eggs, butter, cheese, and (ohmigosh) coconut. It was unbelievably delicious and reminiscent of baked goods from yesteryear. Today I had a chicken empanada and something resembling a pakora with bonus cheese on top that name of which I never caught. Greasy yes, but very tasty as well.

Can anyone help me with flavourful, but perhaps nutritious choices? I won't pray for low-fat after what I've seen. Lower fat would be nice though. Thanks.
