I just had a conversation with a work colleague from the Midwest. She will be in Vegas at a convention I plan to attend for one day in September. We want to meet that evening for dinner somewhere near the Convention Center. I told her that LOS was an obvious choice. She said it sounded fine, especially since she'll have a car, but somehow in the conversation two important facts came to light: 1) The day in question happens to be her birthday, and 2) She's never eaten Thai food before (!) I'm not too worried about her spice tolerance..she and I have eaten Mexican food together and she poured on the salsa. I'm also not worried about the fact that I'm choosing a relatively casual place on her birthday..she's not a "fancy" type of person. But I do want to make it a special dinner...any suggestions on what dishes I should order for a first timer to Thai food? The mango/sticky rice desert is a given...but what else would you order if you wanted your friend to start a lifelong love of Thai food? (Of course, she will be forever spoiled by starting at LOS). I'm excited by that weekend...due to the wonders of air travel I get to eat at LOS and at the SF Chowhound picnic within the space of 24 hours!!
