Just had lunch at the thrilling Longwood Grill in the medical area which was completely dead this Fri. before Xmas. I don't go often, had an okay lunch there a couple years ago and thought a burger was a safe choice. It wasn't bad but it wasn't too exciting, it said angus beef but didn't seem to be esp. great quality, not too big a patty, a little better than usual fries and a tiny container of cole slaw (at least it wasn't plastic). Friends' house salads were good looking and they split a shrimp/artichoke pizza that looked kind of greasy. Sweet swerver, pleasant enough place, no need to go back before another 2 years pass.
Was envisioning a fancy cocktail in a large martini glass so we hit West on Centre last nite in West Rox., even after the recent negative comments. The drink hit the spot, big sour apple martini for only $8, friend had a couple IPAs as we split fried calamari. Not the best (Game On has that distinction lately who I see will be serving breakfast) but okay to munch on while sipping drinks and catching up at a low table by the fire. Bar area was jammed but our server was on top of things. Dessert was much better, banana bread pudding w/ ice cream and an over-abundance of caramelized bananas but quite good.
Hit Anthem after the Bon Jovi show (yes, Bon Jovi) and it was pretty damn quiet for a Sat. nite at 10PM with a concert down the street. Sat at the bar where nice twin bartenders worked, making more oversized "martinis", pomengranate and something else I don't remember for $10 ea. Split a decent white pizza, specifics escape me but a nice bite for $12. I can see where the rumors of them closing might be true if that's a typical Sat. nite.
