is one of the best places we've eaten at in NYC, EVER. I'm apologizing because sometimes there's a bias here against strongly mainstream places, and I don't want people to think that I expect GT to replace, say, Pio-Pio in anyone's heart.
We went Monday night for our anniversary. On a deliciousness scale of 0 (blech) to 10 (more, more, more!!), only 2 items did not rate a 9 or 10. (Those were the rolls which were pretty ordinary, and the lime meringue tartlet in the petits fours which was very good but nowhere near as exciting as everything else before it.) The spice-roasted lobster app, roasted rabbit and roasted lamb mains were all 10s. Subtle flavors, strong flavors, contrasts in flavors and textures -- great! The hamachi app was only a 9, but still better that almost anything else I've eaten.
Desserts were also 10s: lemon souffle tart with lemon verbena ice cream and lemon confit, and a peach tatin with white peach sorbet and basil syrup. For once I tried to leave room for dessert, since I've heard such great things about Claudia Fleming -- I'm glad I did, because she is brilliant!
Sorry to gush so, but it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!
