Longboat Key trip report from DC Chowhound

This year's family vac was at the Resort at Longboat Key Club. Had a great time and ate at some fab restaurants. Here are my reviews:

Chart House: Nice atmosphere and food was very good. Pricey.

Crab and Fin: Terrific appetizers. Try the eggplant crepes and the shrimp napolean. Bread is excellent. Great crabcakes. My ding was with our 2nd dinner there. I ordered scamp which is supposed to be local. It was tasteless and reminded me of Mrs. Paul. My niece had salmon and also thought it was tasteless. I say stick with the crab and avoid the fin. Also pricey.

Hemingways: great lobster special. My nephew liked the ribs. Atmosphere is not great and there was an inexplicable smell of Glade air freshener.

PattiGeorges: gourmet taste treat. Best cosmopolitans. The secret is to use mandarin orange vodka. Food was fantastic and different. Try the mussels in coconut and green curry sauce. Desserts are topnotch. Pricey.

Marina Jacks: I wish I could strangle the concierge for recommending this. She claimed it was where the locals ate and yet it looked like a tourist trap. From the signs there, it looked like they offered dinner cruises. The crabcakes were bland, the filet mignon looked more like Ponderosa steakhouse variety. Don't need to go back there. Also pricey but not worth it.
