I'd like some ideas of long time family owned and operated restaurants in different neighborhoods - which also have good food. I love the family atmosphere and meeting the long time regulars at the bar. You can usually learn so much about the neighborhood and city.
One place I hang is Mimi's on 52nd and Second. Dominick is a great bartender and friend to everyone who comes in, second generation ownership runs the place, but the founder's wife is still the hostess, staff been there decades as well. Old time places have stories too, like the present Mimi's which was established some thirty years ago when the original restuarant was bought out to make room for Citicorp Center.
Although I like good food, for day to day dining, restaurants to me should be more than just fabulous appetizers and entrees to die for, but warm places with comfort food to relax, have a drink and catch up on the day; thus my interest in long time family owned and operated places. Ideas ?
