Long Tan - Cold, Inattentive Service

Penelope | Jun 16, 2002 02:28 PM

We ate at Long Tan (5th Avenue & Union Street) last night. The food was delicious. We started with the mussels in lakso (coconut milk) broth. Yummy and generous! Then we each had curries, also very good and seriously spicy. We'd definitely go back, BUT, the service was poor. We were basically served by two wait people, a man and a woman who were both cold fish. When my husband complimented the waiter on the mussels, the waiter looked at him and acted as though my husband hadn't said anything. No "thank you" or "I'm glad you enjoyed it", just a blank stare and a clearing of the dishes. And I don't think it was a hearing issue. It was just plain snottiness. Then we, and the people at the table next to us, had to practically do dances to get any of the wait staff to return to our tables to offer desserts or checks. They were all standing near the bar in a little clique entertaining each other for a very long time...long enough for us to have a whole conversation with the people next door. We've only eaten there once before and that was a while ago. I'm hoping that it was just an off night. As I said, the tasty food will definitely bring us back for another try.
