My lotus cake fix in the Bay Area was always Eastern Bakery. (Though may be displaced by Golden Gate bakery - of the fascinatingly fresh lotus paste and the ungodly great egg custards.)
So far, down here, every attempt at lotus cakes, moon cakes, etc. has ended in disappointed.
Oh yeah - if anybody has a source for ungodly great egg custards - especially if I don't have to sit through a Sam Woo dim sum meal - please pass on.
