Long for the days...

Is it me (and, it can, quite possibly be!) that there's a dearth of just good "hole in the wall" Chinese establishments (sans Montery Park - China Town) that you can just go, grab a good bite or - god forbid -- get takeout!?

When I was growing up in the valley, there were quite a few good Chinese restaurants but now with the increased popularity of Thai cuisine (and, sorry, not as big a fan) that Chinese establishments have really suffered.

Please don't tell me to go to China Town or Monterey Park -- I'm talking about a none-destination meal that's simple and easy. Chung-King on the West Side fit the bill but now I hear is not so good, and there's nothing in Los Feliz/Silverlake -- we end up spending bucks to get Chi Dynasty take-out which is annoying when you just want an easy (and cheap) meal.

Thoughts?
