How long to cook tilapia in the oven? Or alternative quick tilapia ideas that kids will like

lizmari | May 25, 201412:07 PM     14

I've been getting great answers from the Chowhound boards for a while, but finally signed up and am posting my first question - I hope it is appropriate for this group.

I was a vegetarian for a long time, but recently started eating fish, and cooking it is still new to me. We are having company over tonight, and with not much time to cook, I am making teriyaki tilapia with some rice and steamed veggies, figuring it will be easy and the kids will like it. I am thinking that baking in the oven with (without?) foil might be the most foolproof, but I'm open to suggestions. If I do bake it in foil, how long and at what temperature? Should I marinate the fish first, or just cook it in the sauce in the foil?

If you have any other suggestions for what to do with tilapia served with brown rice (I'm obsessed with my new Zojirushi rice cooker), feel free to comment - even if I don't use your suggestion tonight, we will be eating tilapia on a fairly regular basis since it is cheap, mild tasting, and sustainable, so I would love to have more ideas :)

Thanks for your help! It feels so weird to be so clueless in the kitchen!
