We are a foodie family from Atlanta (originally from NYC) and will be staying in a rented flat that's about 10 min from the Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater Station tube stops. I've been to London twice before for work, but my family has never been. I realize this is a tough week for restaurants so I'm looking for a little help and guidance and/or confirmation.
I think we will cook at the flat on Christmas Day-- or at least shop good take out to warm up but we would like to try and go out for Christmas Eve and the same goes for New Years Day- since it falls on Sunday (Maybe Rules, Harwood Arms, Blacklock for roast on Sunday the 1st?).
That Rules meal would most likely be on the higher end of our desired price range without wine.
Here's a list of things we were hoping to try and some places we think match. I'd love some feedback or recommendation.
Great English Breakfast- I've checked out the London Review of Breakfasts, but it seems like their top 10 are all fairly far east of where we are staying and I'm not sure my condition and need for a GEB would stand up to traveling 40 min by tube. What about a bacon sandwich in the area as well?
What about meat pies for lunch?
Thinking Cafe Spice, Delhi Grill, Gymkhana, Dishroom, Imli St. for Indian.
Grosvenors House for afternoon tea (this will be a first for all of us)
How is the Fish House of Notting Hill?
Xmas Eve- Mac and Wild is open lunch. Really need help here.
Others we are thinking about are Tramished, The Judged Hare, MEATLiquor, Dim Sum at AWong or Golden Dragon. What would you recommend as some of your favorites? -- cheap eats, sit down dinners and lunches, pubs, desserts etc.
